Over 400 procedures mapped in the "BVData" database
The "BVData" database of the German Medical Technology Association (BVMed), which was launched in spring 2022, now contains over 400 evaluation procedures for more than 200 innovative examination and treatment methods using medical technologies. From the medical technology perspective, the database prepares the method assessment procedures of the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) and other participating organizations in a structured manner. "With this service and the fully searchable datasets on the testing and evaluation of medical devices, medical technology companies can analyze all data quickly and meaningfully," says BVMed CEO Marc-Pierre Möll.
The requirements for the safe and efficient treatment of patients with medical devices are constantly growing. With suitable data sources, important insights from everyday care can be gained to improve the quality of treatment. One tool for medical device manufacturers to demonstrate the benefits of medical devices are method evaluation procedures, such as trial procedures.
A method trial requires the participation of many independent institutes. Here, however, the communication of test results and decisions is not uniformly regulated, according to the association. A complete overview of method evaluation and analyses is now to be provided by the manufacturer-oriented digital evaluation procedure database "BVData".
There, procedures from the opening to the final evaluation are stored in a structured way. With the fully searchable data sets for testing and evaluation of medical devices, medical technology companies can analyze all data quickly and meaningfully.
According to BVMed, the database is the first of its kind and suitable for all companies that place or have placed a medical device on the market and want to be included in the standard care of the statutory health insurance.
