Regardless of the manufacturing process used for orthopaedic implants, the required surface quality regularly demands a significant amount of post-processing. Added to this is the increasing shortage of skilled workers for this sometimes dirty and monotonous, yet consistently concentrated, work. Consistently good processing results are required; however, even with good workers, scrap rates of 10% to 20% are not uncommon.
