Flexible biocompatible implant electrodes based on Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP)

Flexible, biocompatible implant electrodes provide safe and long-lasting interfaces with biological tissue. Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) combines high flexibility with excellent electrical, chemical, and mechanical properties, making it ideal for compact, implantable electronics.

LCP features an ordered molecular structure, offering low moisture absorption, high chemical resistance, and dimensional stability. Its excellent high-frequency properties and low loss factors make it optimal for high-frequency applications and use in demanding environments.

Thanks to its thermoplastic nature, thermoformable multilayer flex structures with thin, precise conductive traces can be manufactured. This enables flexible, three-dimensionally adaptable implants that fit easily into limited spaces.

The biocompatibility of LCP ensures that implants remain stable over long periods without reacting with bodily fluids or sterilization processes. This reduces the risk of inflammation and ensures reliable electrical signaling over years.

Additionally, LCP’s mechanical flexibility allows implants to tolerate body movements without affecting performance or surrounding tissue. They can be curved, folded, or shaped into complex forms while maintaining consistent electrical performance.

LCP thus forms the foundation for high-performance, durable, and flexible implant electrodes, enabling compact designs and maximum reliability in modern medical devices.
