Porous PTFE for Medical Applications

Thanks to its numerous beneficial material properties, it is ideally suited for a wide range of applications in the medical and life sciences sectors. For example, as porous filters or films in sterilisation containers, for oral surgery, and for valve ventilation in dialysis machines.

Porous PTFE filters for sterilisation containers ensure sterile air exchange during autoclaving. The filter acts as a barrier against particles and germs, protecting against contamination during transport. The porous structure allows air and steam to pass through, thereby facilitating condensate management.

Advantages:

· Temperature-resistant (>130°C)

· Chemically inert to cleaning agents and steam

· Defined porosity for controlled air permeability

· Hydrophobic, no sticking or moisture barrier

· Stable even at low thickness, flexible and durable

· Reusable, reduces consumables

Foils made of porous PTFE for oral and maxillofacial surgery are used in the form of thin sheets and act as a barrier between soft tissue and regenerating bone. They protect against bacteria and allow for controlled gas exchange (breathable, water-resistant). They are used in bone and tissue regeneration (GBR/GTR), as wound dressings, and also in periodontology and implantology.

Advantages:

· Biocompatible and high-purity

· Temperature- and pressure-stable

· Reproducible pore structure

· Sterile barrier effect

· Mechanically flexible, thin and dimensionally stable

· No resorption, constant barrier function
