At BeFC, we generate electricity from sugar, enzymes, and paper. We develop metal-free organic batteries made from 100% natural materials to replace toxic lithium batteries in low-power devices, including healthcare, medical, and IoT applications.
At BeFC, we make electricity with sugar, enzymes and paper.
The problem we are addressing is the pollution caused by toxic and non-environmentally friendly miniature lithium batteries used in low-power electronic devices. In total, 15 billion batteries are disposed of every year, and 97% of them end up in landfills or are incinerated.
To tackle this issue, BeFC has developed an organic battery that is metal-free, and free of hazardous materials. We use 100% natural materials, specifically enzymes to convert glucose and oxygen into electricity. Lightweight, thin, and flexible, our batteries are designed to power low-energy devices.
Our vision is to replace toxic batteries in the healthcare, medical devices, and more broadly, the IoT sectors.
