Versatile laser technologies for demanding plastic applications

FOBA offers a wide range of laser types—fiber, UV, green, CO₂, and ultrashort pulse lasers—which can be selected depending on the type of plastic, application, and desired effect. For example, UV lasers (355 nm) are ideal for sensitive and heat-sensitive plastics such as PEEK or medical components – they remove markings photochemically and minimize heat input. Green lasers (532 nm) offer a combination of fast marking and high contrast quality and are particularly efficient for reflective or difficult-to-mark plastics. Ultra-short pulse lasers produce deep black, non-reflective markings with minimal material stress. CO₂ and fiber lasers complement the portfolio with cost-efficient, fast, and versatile solutions.

Range of applications: From medical technology to industry to design

Laser marking from FOBA is well established in areas such as medical technology, the automotive and electronics industries, thanks to precise, abrasion- and chemical-resistant markings with high traceability and safety. Examples of applications include cannulas or implants (sterilizable, smooth marked surfaces), injection-molded housings with a robust carbonization effect, animal ear tags in fiber laser color-change optics, SMD components with microscopic engraving, and PEEK components with permanently readable codes. The process offers the highest possible process reliability—for example, through the integrated IMP (Intelligent Marking Positioning) vision system, which checks the marking before and after labeling, verifies codes, and ensures readability. In addition, targeted additives improve the markability of plastics that previously showed little reaction. Finally, the white paper "Laser Marking of Plastics" is a valuable guide for manufacturers to optimally match materials, laser selection, and parameters.

FOBA offers a modular, high-performance system for laser marking plastics—versatile in technology and application, precise in results, and resource-efficient in operation. Whether for sensitive medical components or industrial series marking, the right laser solutions with quality control are already available.
