Challenges in the development of medical devices

In view of the high utilisation of medical staff, it is considered necessary to bring industry to the clinics rather than clinicians to industry. This physical proximity should enable industrial development groups to address unmet healthcare needs and optimally integrate medical expertise into the innovation process. High regulatory requirements and the dynamics of digitalisation create a challenging environment for the research and development of innovative medical products. Several of the industry-in-clinic platforms funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research discuss these topics and contribute their experience.
